Been playing my friend's account. It's been over a decade and SC2 is just a really ridiculously good looking and "polished" SC. The game play is pretty much exactly the same. I still prefer Relic's Dawn of War/Company of Heroes style of RTS. If you liked SC you'll love SC2; if you're looking for innovation look elsewhere.
